U.S. Stays Undefeated in World Cup Volleyball

The undefeated United States, which already had clinched the title, beat Czechoslovakia, 15-11, 15-5, 15-9, Sunday, and the Soviet Union downed Japan, 15-7, 15-7, 15-5, on the final day of the men’s World Cup Volleyball Championships.

The Americans’ victory was their seventh against no losses in the tournament. Czechoslovakia finished 5-2.

Steve Timmons led the U.S. team with 10 points, followed by Pat Powers and Craig Buck with six points each. Teammate Karch Kilary, named the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 5 points.
