American Communist Party newspapers in New York and the San Francisco Bay area will be merged into a single, nationwide daily paper next spring, Carl Bloice, editor of the Berkeley-based Peoples World, said. The merger will bring together Peoples World, a weekly, and the New York-based Daily World into a single paper that will be printed simultaneously on the East and West coasts. Target date for the start-up is May 1, 1986. “The plan is for a completely new newspaper, with a new news desk and new operations,” Bloice said. “A name for it has not yet been chosen.” Bloice said timing of the new venture was “influenced partly by the political situation. We feel that at this point there’s an upsurge,” he said. “The political deadness of the 1970s is behind us.”
