Pomona : Latino Student Project

Share

A program called the Educational Community Project has been established to increase education and career awareness among Latino high school students in the San Gabriel Valley. The project, which is based on an agreement with Cal Poly Pomona and a Latino educational organization, will provide outreach and support services designed to motivate 30 Latino high school freshmen to achieve education and career goals.

The agreement was signed on Nov. 17 by Cal Poly President Hugh O. La Bounty and Frank Dominguez, local director of the National Educational Service Centers Inc., one of 12 offices nationwide that are united under the umbrella of The League of United Latin American Citizens, a Latino community and political organization. The Pomona branch of the National Educational Service Centers Inc. has begun selecting the freshmen who will receive university help during their four years of high school.

A full Cal Poly scholarship will be offered to one of the students in 1989 when the group will have reached its senior year in high school.
