Fire swept through a barracks at Camp Shiloh, an Israeli army facility northeast of Jerusalem in the Samarian hills of the occupied West Bank, killing eight soldiers and injuring seven others. Two Palestinian groups quickly claimed responsibility for the blaze, but Israeli military spokesmen said that although they could not rule out sabotage, the fire appeared to have been started accidentally.
