A 25-year-old Santa Ana man was killed early Tuesday morning when the motorcycle he was driving had a tire blowout and he was thrown into the path of an automobile on the southbound Costa Mesa Freeway near Dyer Road, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of his relatives. The car’s driver was following about 100 feet behind and unable to avoid hitting the cyclist, whose motorcycle had “wobbled, fishtailed and then veered into the No. 3 lane and fell over,” CHP public affairs officer Paul Caldwell said.
The car’s driver was not cited, he said. An investigation into the cause of the blowout is continuing, Caldwell said.
