Dale Hardeman has been selected as president of the Cerritos Community College District Board of Trustees.

Hardeman, who is in his first four-year term on the seven-member board, replaces Hazel Scotto as president. Scotto did not run for another term in last month’s election.

During its annual reorganization meeting Monday, the board also installed newly elected member Mark Durant and two members reelected to second terms, Bob Epple and Ada Steenhoek. Steenhoek was selected as vice president.

In other action, board members voted themselves a raise from $30 per meeting to a maximum of $300 a month.

Under state law, a school board’s salary limit is tied to its district’s average daily attendance. The larger the district, the higher the salary school board members are permitted.

Cerritos College in Norwalk has more than 17,000 students. The maximum monthly salary a trustee is entitled to is $400.

The board also changed its meeting schedule. It previously met every second and fourth Monday. It will now meet every second and fourth Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
