DeLorean Keeps $10 Million; Wife Gets Children
John Z. DeLorean’s ex-wife won custody of the couple’s two children Wednesday, but the court permitted the former auto maker to keep the estimated $10 million in assets that he took into the marriage.
Superior Court Judge Michael Imbriani upheld a prenuptial agreement protecting DeLorean’s assets, although Cristina Ferrare Thomopoulos argued that she had signed it under duress.
However, he decided that Thomopoulos, a television talk show hostess, should have custody of the couple’s 14-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter, saying that DeLorean travels too much and has too many legal troubles to devote enough time to the youngsters.
Imbriani postponed a final property settlement until after the resolution of a bankruptcy case involving DeLorean’s failed auto manufacturing company.
