They’re calling it “Art-Aid,” but this benefit event isn’t being staged to raise money for Art Linkletter or Art Carney. Instead, numerous Orange County artists have donated nearly 300 works for an art show and sale Saturday to benefit the Hunger Project.

The benefit will be held at the Kronquist Gallery in Laguna Beach, where gallery director Cliff Wassmann said he hopes to raise $100,000 at the all-day event. “We have about 300 pieces of art, some of which were completely donated for this sale. The other stuff is already in the gallery, and we will be giving our profits from anything we sell,” Wassmann said.

“Art Aid” will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will also include a performance at 3 p.m. by the Orange County band No More Houses. Artworks will be priced from $5 to $5,000, Wassmann said.

“We’re having this as sort of a test,” Wassmann said. “If it’s successful, I’d like to get all the galleries in Laguna Beach together and have the whole town do a benefit. So this is the dry run.”

The Hunger Project is a San Francisco-based organization--a spinoff of Werner Erhard’s est--formed to combat world hunger.

The gallery is at 484 N. Coast Highway in Laguna Beach. For additional information, call (714) 494-5597.
