‘Bethlehem Walk’: a Trip Back to Time of Christ

Share

A trip back 2,000 years to ancient Judea is offered as the West Anaheim Methodist Church holds its ninth annual “Bethlehem Walk” today and Sunday at the church, 2045 W. Ball Road.

The entire church property has been “re-created” as the city of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’ birth. Visitors must register as one of the 12 tribes of Israel before entering the city, where they will be greeted by city residents in the costumes of the day, along with traditional animals such as sheep, goats, donkeys and a camel. Other city residents such as Roman Centurions, beggars, prophets and Hebrew peasant women doing the traditional folk dances will add to the atmosphere of a busy market town.

“Bethlehem” will also feature booths with goods that would have been sold during that time and artisans such as carpenters, spinners, weavers, dyers, basket makers and metal workers. There will also be a produce shop and a synagogue with a rabbi. The highlight of the event will be the crowded inn, complete with innkeeper, Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.
