L.A. Council Takes Steps to Create Tujunga ‘Pocket Park’

The Los Angeles City Council took steps Friday to establish a small park in Tujunga.

Councilman Howard Finn proposed that a one-acre park be developed behind the Sunland-Tujunga Municipal Building. To pay for it, he proposed using money from the sale of a small piece of unused city property nearby.

“This would pay for the park without it having to come out of city funds,” Finn said. The park would be in his district.

The council directed the Bureau of Engineering to get an appraisal of the land to be sold. It told the Department of Public Works to ascertain that the land is surplus property before it solicits bids. The Recreation and Park Commission must also approve the proposal.

“We would like to have kind of a small pocket park so that the local people can use it,” Finn said. “We have fewer parks in our community than almost any other district.”
