Ford Aerospace & Communications Corp. in Newport Beach has received a $1.2-million contract to study the feasibility of building a new airborne missile to destroy ground-based radiation sources that direct enemy weapons. The 15-month study will be conducted by a team of researchers from seven NATO nations, including Canada, Italy, Holland, England, West Germany and Belgium.

The contract, awarded by the U.S. Air Force Armament Division, will be handled by the Missile Systems Operation at Ford’s Newport Beach facility. The operation is directed by James J. Watson. Seymour Beek is the program manager and technical manager is Jack Hemingway.
