The Nation : AIDS Quarantine Backed

Share

The Texas Board of Health tentatively agreed to allow AIDS patients who do not cooperate with authorities to be quarantined. Gay rights activists opposed the action, saying that it would discourage people with acquired immune deficiency syndrome from seeking treatment. The board acted after an AIDS patient in Houston refused to stop working as a male prostitute. The man died of the disease last month. The proposal is subject to a 30-day comment period and a public hearing before it can be adopted.
