Austria’s Parliament unanimously approved a law requiring the state to return works of art, rare books and coins confiscated from Jews by the Nazis. Unclaimed works will be auctioned off, with the proceeds to “benefit the victims of the Nazi regime.” The law covers about 600 paintings, 3,000 books and 3,000 coins stored by the state in a former monastery. Owners or their relatives will have until Sept. 30, 1986, to file claims.
