Two teen-agers were arrested in connection with the ransacking of more than 500 students’ lockers at two Downey high schools over the weekend after a passer-by overheard banging sounds from one of the schools and telephoned police.

Michael Shane Campbell, 18, of South Gate and a 17-year-old juvenile from Downey were arrested late Sunday at Warren High School, where police found lockers pried open with a tire iron and the grounds strewn with books, notebooks and other student belongings. Police said they also found the suspects’ bicycles loaded with several knapsacks filled with students’ clothing, pocket calculators, small radios, cameras and other items stolen from the lockers.

The youths, who police said returned to the school after breaking into about 150 lockers Saturday night at Warren and at Downey High School, were booked on suspicion of burglary.
