Ex-Reagan Adviser Acquitted
Former presidential adviser Thomas C. Reed was acquitted today of charges that he used inside information to make a $427,000 profit in stock options, then fabricated documents to cover up his actions.
A federal court jury in Manhattan deliberated two days before returning the verdict. Reed, 51, who served as Air Force secretary under President Gerald R. Ford, became a special national security assistant to President Reagan in 1982. He resigned in 1983 amid mounting criticism of his options trades, which took place in March, 1981.
