A judge gave UPI’s sale a conditional approval.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge George Bason ruled that Mexican newspaper publisher Mario Vazquez Rana could buy the ailing news service but barred him from a role in management until creditors have voted to approve the deal. The judge also said that, if Vazquez Rana refuses to accept those terms within 24 hours, bids from rival suitors may be considered.
