Fender Musical Instruments Corp. said it agreed to acquire Sunn Electronics for an undisclosed amount.
Sunn, based in Tualatin, Oregon, makes musical instrument amplifiers, voice amplification systems and stage lighting equipment.
Completion of the agreement is expected December 20 and the Sunn name will be retained, said Bill Schultz, Fender’s chairman and chief executive.
About 12 Sunn executives and marketing people will be dismissed, Fender said, but the approximately 50 manufacturing workers will be retained.
Brea-based Fender, the company that made the electric guitar popular, also makes acoustic guitars, amplifiers, Rhodes electric pianos, Rogers drums and Chroma and Polaris music synthesizers.
