Rockefeller’s Estate Loses Deduction Plea

WASHINGTON —
The Supreme Court on Monday barred the estate of Nelson A. Rockefeller from claiming as a tax deduction $550,159 he spent in 1974 for legal and other professional services during his confirmation hearings for vice president.
The court, without comment, let stand rulings that the money was not a deductible business expense. Rockefeller was nominated for the vice presidency in 1974 by President Gerald R. Ford. Rockefeller died in 1979.
