San Dimas : Horse Trail Plan OKd

Share

A system of interconnected equestrian trails that eventually will provide unbroken links among the city’s many horse keepers has been approved in concept by the San Dimas City Council.

Volunteers will immediately begin building the first phase of a trail on a 1.3-mile section of Allen Avenue and will ask the council for funding as it is needed, Equestrian Commission Chairman Steve Ogle said. Eventually, he said, he hopes to provide a connection between horse owners on the north and south sides of the city, as well as links to trails in Bonelli Regional Park near San Dimas.

“There are over 1,000 horse owners in the city,” Ogle said. “While they’re still a minority, they’re a substantial minority.”

Community Development Director Heinz Lumpp said he will work with Ogle to establish a timetable for construction of the system, which is likely to include a network of trails along San Dimas streets, some parallel to existing sidewalks.
