‘Insane Anglo Warlord’ Spawns New Anagrams’

What’s in a name? Apparently the TIMES thinks that President Reagan’s name does not smell so sweet--and has an anagram to prove it. (Editorial page, Dec. 4)

I want to thank The Times for opening my eyes to this little-known method of determining character traits. I can’t imagine why I never noticed it before.

Take the words “LOS ANGELES TIMES”, for example--or “SMITE SENEGAL SOL” as it should read. Does the TIMES really intend to darken the sky over Senegal? They seem to have enough trouble over there already. I’m hoping it’s just a reference to a simple circulation war with the “SENEGAL SUN”, even though I’m sure that a clash between such journalistic giants would produce its own bloodshed.
