Local News in Brief : Consultants to Study Proposed Financing of Cable TV System
Anxious to speed completion of the 1,140-mile cable television system for the East San Fernando Valley, the Los Angeles City Council agreed Friday to use outside consultants to help review a financing plan proposed by the system’s builder.
Officials said the consultants’ costs will be paid by United Cable Television of East San Fernando Valley Ltd. That firm has a 10-year city franchise to build and operate the $75-million cable system.
Susan Herman, general manager of the city Department of Telecommunications, said the city will select the consultants and retain final say on whether United Cable’s financing plan is a good one. City approval of the finance proposal is required under terms of the franchise.
