“TWINKLING OF AN EYE.” John Blake. Gramavision 18-8501-1. Violinist Blake isn’t courting the crossover crowd by breaking out the usual fuzak cliches here but he doesn’t come up with any distinctive alternatives on “Twinkling of an Eye.” The arrangements attempt to have it both ways by combining electric and acoustic instruments and adding unobtrusive synthesizers to add mellow textures. The production is suitably high-tech glossy and scattered moments of inspired playing but “Twinkling of an Eye” is just too polite too leave a lasting impression. 2 stars.
