A Superior Court jury in Auburn ruled that the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort was not negligent in the deaths of three people who were buried by an avalanche in the resort’s parking lot on March 31, 1982. A damage suit was filed against the resort by the families of David Hahn of Los Altos and Leroy Nelson of Eureka and his 11-year-old daughter, Laura, who were among seven people killed in the avalanche. The suit contended that the resort was negligent by building a parking lot in a slide path and failing to warn skiers of an avalanche danger. Resort attorneys said the avalanche was an unforeseeable act of nature.
