Psychiatric tests were ordered Monday in San Fernando Superior Court for convicted child molester Edwin A. Greenup, whose father, a former school headmaster, is awaiting trial on 21 counts of child molestation in an unrelated case.

Judge David Perez ordered Greenup, 29, taken to California Institution for Men at Chino for the tests before sentencing March 20.

Greenup, a disabled Granada Hills handyman, was convicted Nov. 25 of molesting a 3-year-old girl. He faces up to 11 years in prison.

At the non-jury trial, Greenup testified that he exposed his genitals to the girl but denied molesting her.

But witnesses said Greenup took the girl by the hand and led her to the back of a laundry room at the Northridge apartment house where the victim lived.

An 8-year-old witness, demonstrating with a doll, said Greenup picked up the child by placing a hand under her crotch.

Greenup’s attorney, Edward Masry, said his client has fractured his neck three times since 1983 “and the pain has had a negative effect on this man’s state of mind and contributed to his actions.”

Greenup, who has been in custody since his conviction, wore a neck brace in court Monday.
