Hats off to the U.S. Marshals Service who successfully rounded up 100 of Washington, D.C.’s most wanted criminals by simply inviting them to a free brunch with the promise of free Redskins football tickets to follow.
The organizers of this show would win an Emmy for some of the best television programming I have seen. The “top hat and tails” bust was preceded by cheerleaders, “high fives” and lots of smiling faces, followed by the most astonished faces I have seen once they realized that the free ticket was for jail.
The Marshal’s Service is often overlooked as the darksheep of law enforcement, but hopefully this creative sting operation will shine a new light on the good work they do, and I hope they will be providing us with additional television programming in the near future. I am confident that this method of apprehending criminals will continue to work time after time, because if there is one lesson that criminals will never learn, it is “There is no such thing as a free brunch.”
