An insurance agent will go on trial Feb. 13 on charges that he bilked 15 teachers out of $215,000 in retirement funds.

Emmett Lynn Kemp Jr., 41, of Carlsbad, pleaded innocent Friday before San Diego Superior Court Judge Kenneth Johns, who set the trial date.

Kemp allegedly told the teachers he represented three insurance companies that would place their money in tax-exempt teacher retirement funds, when actually the money was not placed with the firms. Kemp did business as San Diego Financial Services and the alleged embezzlement took place between November, 1982, and last September.

Kemp, who waived his right to have a preliminary hearing, is free on his own recognizance.
