CHP Checkpoint Planned in Tustin

Share

The California Highway Patrol scheduled a sobriety checkpoint for late Friday night through early this morning at the intersection of 17th Street and Prospect Avenue North in Tustin.

Officer Paul Caldwell said the site, just east of the 55 Freeway, was chosen in part because of the high incidence of drunk driving arrests and collisions in that area. At the same time, he said, the intersection is lighted well enough to protect the nine officers involved in the checkpoint.

Between 10 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. today, drivers eastbound on 17th Street were to be warned as they approached the intersection that a CHP sobriety checkpoint was ahead. Each car was to be stopped for no longer than 30 seconds. Drivers suspected of being under the influence were to be taken to a preset area for further testing.
