Boys Riding Skateboards Hurt When Hit by Truck

Two boys riding skateboards down a hill in Brea crossed into an intersection and were run over by a pickup truck and injured Saturday morning, police said.

They were flown by helicopter to UC Irvine Medical Center, where they were reported in good condition.

“It’s kind of miraculous,” said Brea Police Lt. Jim Winder. “The high road clearance of the truck probably saved them from very serious injuries. They were not hurt nearly as bad as we originally thought.”

Winder said the two boys, Tige Jeremy Dowdy, 11, and Michael Anthony Brambilla, 9, rode their skateboards in a traffic lane down a hill on Evergreen Drive and continued into the Nutwood Street intersection. There are no traffic lights or stop signs at the intersection.

The pickup truck hit the boys broadside, but both boys fell between, rather than under, the front wheels, Winder said.

He said the driver of the truck will not be cited.
