A doctor whose clinic in Pensacola, Fla., was bombed on Christmas Day, 1984, by anti-abortionists plans to leave town and give up his medical practice for at least a year. Dr. William Permenter said the rising cost of malpractice insurance was a critical factor in his decision, but he said it was the bombing and the controversy over abortion that made him first consider leaving his medical practice. “It’s not good to live in a community and be singled out as a bad person,” he said.
