Eight guards on duty during the theft last week of priceless artifacts at Mexico City’s National Museum of Anthropology were released from federal custody after five days of questioning, Atty. Gen. Sergio Garcia Ramirez said. Garcia said the guards will not be charged with any federal crimes but could be punished by city authorities if they are found to have neglected their duties. Meanwhile, the news agency Notimex reported that the eight guards have confessed that at least some of them were sleeping during their shift the night the theft took place.
