Carbide sold some metals units for $83 million.

Union Carbide, fighting a hostile takeover by GAF Corp., says it has sold nearly all of its worldwide chromium, tungsten and vanadium operations as part of a restructuring plan that was announced in August. The chromium interests are being purchased by General Mining Union, Carbide’s South African joint venture partner in the operation. The domestic tungsten and worldwide vanadium interests are being purchased by a group of employees.
