The death rate among women 35 and older from pregnancy-related causes has dropped nearly 50% in recent years, although women that age are still three times as likely to die from such causes as younger women, a study shows. “Although older women will probably continue to be at higher risk of maternal death, recent trends . . . should be reassuring to younger women who are considering postponement of pregnancy and to women aged 35 or older who are contemplating pregnancy,” researchers said in an article in the Journal of the American Medical Assn.
