What snobs your film critics be (“World-Class Feast Amid a Famine Year,” by Sheila Benson, Dec. 29)!

With the well-deserved exceptions of “Prizzi’s Honor” and “Purple Rose of Cairo,” Benson, Kevin Thomas and Michael Wilmington ignore all the well-crafted and appreciated films from major studios in 1985:

“Witness,” “Back to the Future” (the most original of the year), “Cocoon,” “Out of Africa,” “Mask” (a beauty with one honorable mention), “Jagged Edge,” and “The Color Purple.”

And just try to find even one half of their recommended choices. You’d better hurry.
