Colombia’s Nevado del Ruiz volcano continued to rumble and spew ash, prompting the government to maintain a “maximum alert” to guard against an eruption similar to the one Nov. 13 that killed 25,000 people. Thousands of people, mostly farmers ordered evacuated Saturday, spent the night huddled in mountain caves as torrential rains poured down the slopes of the devastated Armero Valley.
