USC defensive line coach Dave Wannstedt has been offered the job of defensive coordinator at the University of Miami, Hurricane Coach Jimmy Johnson said.

Wannstedt plans to accept the position, but he wanted to discuss the move with Trojan Coach Ted Tollner before making his final decision, Johnson said.

Wannstedt, 33, played offensive tackle at Pittsburgh from 1971-73 and joined the Panther coaching staff as an assistant coach in 1976. He went on to Oklahoma State in 1979 and then to USC in 1983. He worked with Johnson at both Pitt and Oklahoma State.
