Monrovia : Street Parking Restrictions

The City Council has enacted an ordinance restricting overnight parking throughout the city. Beginning May 1, no cars without permits will be allowed to park on the streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Permits will be available to residents who show that they do not have room to park on their property.

The city had earlier attempted to get residents to voluntarily stop parking on the streets so that streets can be swept, but during a 90-day trial period, which began in May, there was only a 14% reduction in the number of cars parked on streets overnight.

Although the city has acknowledged that the ban will be an inconvenience to many residents, officials say that street sweeping operations will be more efficient and crime prevention and police patrol efforts will be improved. The total cost to the city will be $21,000 for the first year and $7,700 annually thereafter.
