The Reagan Administration’s 1987 budget will propose that some government loans be sold to private investors in an effort to reduce the federal deficit, a spokesman for the Office of Management and Budget confirmed. “There will be some loan sales, but it will not be a major part of the budget,” the spokesman said. The sales would amount to $2 billion to $3 billion out of the government’s $245-billion portfolio, according to the New York Times. The report said that officials at various government departments were studying an OMB proposal to sell loans.
