Enos Cabell of the Dodgers and Dave Parker of the Cincinnati Reds were among the first players to meet with Commissioner Peter Ueberroth as he began hearings in New York into drug use in baseball.

However, Chuck Adams, a spokesman for the commissioner, declined to comment on the meetings. “Our position throughout this whole process has been and is one of no comment,” Adams said.

Don Fehr, executive director of the Major League Players Assn., and Gene Orza, counsel for the union, attended the hearings but also declined to comment on the proceedings.
