Charlie Sumner Notifies Chargers That He Will Not Accept Position

Share

Charlie Sumner, who had been offered the job of defensive coordinator, has notified the Chargers that he will decline the position.

Sumner, a former defensive coordinator for the Raiders, is expected to take another job with an NFL team. He is currently coach of the Oakland Invaders of the United States Football League.

It now appears that the Chargers’ defensive staff will be made up of newcomer Ron Lynn, along with holdovers, Dave Adolph, who was defensive coordinator, and Gunther Cunningham who was defensive line coach,

It isn’t known whether Adolph will remain as defensive coordinator but it appears likely that either he or Lynn will fill that role. Lynn will coach defensive backs while Adolph will handle the linebackers.
