Sheriff’s deputies used a Taser gun Monday to subdue a man who had been holding his wife at knifepoint at a trailer park in East County, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
Charles Lewis, 21, was treated at El Cajon Valley Hospital after he was disabled by the Taser, which fires an electrical charge. He was then taken to the County Jail in downtown San Diego.
The spokesman said deputies answering a call about a family dispute arrived at the Oakcrest Recreational Park in Guatay, on Old Highway 80 near Pine Valley, to find Lewis holding a knife to the throat of his wife, Dawn, 36, in her trailer. Lewis does not live at the trailer park.
A sheriff’s SWAT team and hostage negotiator were called to the scene. After several hours of negotiation, Lewis came out of the trailer, still holding the knife to his wife’s throat.
His wife managed to get free and Lewis fell back into the trailer, still clutching the knife.
Ten minutes later, Lewis was talked out of the trailer again and shot with the Taser, the sheriff’s spokesman said.
