Share

Jury selection was completed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday for the felony embezzlement trial of school board Trustee Caroline Coleman.

After five days of questioning potential jurors, defense and prosecution attorneys settled on a panel that includes a free-lance graphic artist, a registered nurse, a computer programmer and a college student. Two alternate jurors also were selected.

Coleman, 48, is charged with two counts of embezzlement for allegedly filing fraudulent expense reports for $1,200 she received to attend an educational conference in New Orleans in November, 1983.

Coleman, who pleaded innocent to the charges, has been suspended without pay from her job as a county probation officer pending the outcome of the trial. If found guilty, the three-term trustee could lose her school board seat and her county job and would be barred from holding public office in the future.
