BRUSSELS — Belgian police Wednesday announced their second major drug haul in two days--the seizure of more than 36 pounds of heroin worth about $3 million found hidden in the axles of a Turkish truck.
A spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office said that detectives discovered the heroin when they searched the vehicle at a Brussels truck stop Monday.
He said that police, tipped off about a large drug trafficking racket between Turkey and Belgium some weeks ago, arrested two Turks, Yasar Cetinel, 33, of Ankara, and Mustapha Ozturk, 26, who is living in the Netherlands, in connection with the find.
Antwerp police said Monday that specially trained dogs had found two tons of marijuana with a street value of about $50 million.
