Two convicts surrendered their knives and freed three hostages unharmed, ending a 30-hour siege of a maximum-security prison’s mess hall in Ypsilanti, Mich. The inmates released their captives after officials agreed to transfer the pair to a federal prison. Namon Travis asked for the transfer because he said he feared for his life. Elvis Williams gave no reason. Both men are convicted armed robbers.
