Councilman Ernani Bernardi has begun his drive for a ballot initiative that would, if approved by voters, nullify the Los Angeles City Council resolution that declared the city a sanctuary for international refugees. Bernardi has four months to secure at least 69,516 valid voter signatures to qualify the measure for the November ballot. If the signatures are gathered, the council would have to either repeal its resolution, or place the initiative on the ballot, according to a spokesman for the city clerk.
