Wind gusting to more than 70 m.p.h. whipped across the Northwest, toppling trees and power lines, and storm warnings were posted for coastal waters of Washington state and Oregon. Motor homes and oversized trucks were banned from the Yaquina Bay Bridge on U.S. 101 at Newport, Ore., because of the wind. High wind and lightning in Washington state knocked out power to 265,000 customers Friday but most service was restored by Saturday.
