Striking fishermen screamed protests and blocked trucks laden with fish after the skippers of nine non-union boats sold their catches at the port’s first auction in three weeks, police said in New Bedford, Mass. About 50 pickets marched peacefully outside the makeshift auction set up by 14 non-union seafood dealers at the harbor’s South Terminal, said Lt. Edigio Mello. The city-owned auction house has been closed since the strike began Dec. 27. Negotiations in the 24-day-old fishermen’s strike are to resume Thursday, federal mediator Austin Skinner said.
