Reagan Is Honorary United Way Chairman

WASHINGTON —
President Reagan, saying that “government alone is not the answer,” accepted the honorary chairmanship of the United Way centennial on Tuesday.
Reagan lent his prestige to a 1987 fund-raising effort that will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the United Way, which raised $21,700 for the needy in its first year and collected more than $2.3 billion last year.
