SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic —
A bus loaded with people on a religious pilgrimage failed to make a curve early Tuesday and crashed, killing 13 and injuring at least a dozen, police said.
Authorities said the bus, carrying pilgrims from different points of the republic, was traveling to Higuey, about 145 miles east of Santo Domingo, the capital.
Police said passengers planned to visit a Roman Catholic church built to honor the Virgin of Altagracias, the patron saint of the Dominican Republic.
