MONEY WOES PLAGUE CHAMBER ENSEMBLE

An empty checkbook forced the cancellation of Monday night’s Pacific Chamber Ensemble concert at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The financially strapped group had already postponed the program, which had first been announced for Dec. 9.

According to the ensemble’s manager, cellist Marilyn Rue, the orchestra will play the next scheduled program of its series Feb. 10 at the church. That program will be repeated in part the following Sunday, Feb. 16, at St. James-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in La Jolla.

Another program sponsored by the chamber ensemble and scheduled for this month, a solo recital by trumpeter Alan Siebert, has been postponed until Feb. 17 at Westminster. Siebert’s program will feature the premiere of a composition by San Diego State University music professor Brent Dutton.

Founded by Rue and conductor Ethan Dulsky in December, 1984, the Pacific Chamber Ensemble announced its first full season last fall. Midway through the season, only two of the eight scheduled programs have been performed.
