Martin Luther King Holiday

Share

Of all the exercises in hypocrisy indulged in by Ronald Reagan during his presidency, none has been more vomitus than his ostentatious celebration of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.

What pretty words we have been hearing from the man who opposed King’s work and its legislative fruits when he was alive, who has spent his five years in office doing his best to undo them and who opposed the holiday in King’s honor until forced to accede under political pressure.

Sadly, most of the members of the well-fed and comfortable segment of the American populace will fall for this scam, as they have all the others. Those who will not be fooled will be the poor and helpless among us who have suffered under the meat ax of Reagan’s economic and social priorities.
